Dodge diesel evolution
Does anyone mess around with these or the '78 trucks that had the mitsubishi diesels in them? The 78's were full size. Just thought it was interesting being sort of the "missin link" between the big diesels of the 60's and 70's and the first gens. I also heard there were perkins diesels put in the very early 70's w300's?
edit its kind of a "mini me" to my avatar.

I've talked to people who owned Ford Rangers with the Mitsu 4 cyl turbo diesels, and they claimed mid to upper 30s MPG.
I've read that the early Dodge diesels were gutless with the NA diesel, and as a result, didnt sell too well. Of course, most NA diesels are gutless....

p6=perkins i6 or 6.354, I had a p4 n/a on a 1963 f100 and a 1984 f100 and the fuel mileage was excellent I was wondering how would You guys compare it to a 6bt in power, mpg and reliability.
Here is a little video of a p6. Btw it is way overkill for a landy to have one of this bc it was used on medium duty trucks but still a hell of a lot of work to convert it.

Like Daniel, I'd always heard that the 70's diesels were way under-powered. I'd say due to that and chivey's diesel reputation is why there weren't many sold.
Good to know about the D50s olddodgetrucks, I been thinking about a diesel one. Maybe I'll pass.
Powerrammaster, theres a fellow in Texas thats in to the old 60-70s W300/500Power Wagons with the Perkins. Awesome looking monsters. He has several. You can find him on the power wagon forum, aron arnold.

Back in the mid-80s, I stopped at a Ford dealership and asked the guy what he had in a good used diesel truck, meaning something Ford one-ton gooseneck puller.
He said "I got one over here" and headed toward a line of plain old half-tons of various make/model.
Sure enough, he had one; it was a late 70s Dodge half-ton with an inline six of whatever it was they used at that time.
I remember the asking price = $1800

Many is the time I have heard someone bring up an old Chevy diesel that they, or someone they knew, had owned, and all the bad experiences they had had, my father included.
To this day, mention him possibly buying a diesel pick-up, and he will go over that same old story that I have heard a thousand times about how "I bought one of those diesel trucks back when they first came out, a 1980 Chevrolet (or was it 1979), I had nothing but headaches ............" and on and on.
GM's early attempts at introducing diesel power to the pick-up world probably has caused the loss of many sales of the later/better diesel powered trucks.
The converted Olds diesel was a flop.
The 6.2s would last forever but would barely pull a naked truck.
The 6.5s , oh well ........
In their time, when Ford introduced the first thing that came close to a real diesel-powered pick-up, one that would pull a big gooseneck across the country and back, the old N/A International 6.9 V-8 diesels were better than anything GAS had to offer at that time; but, GM's numerous flops probably really hurt their sales.
