I am definitely going to do this - I will be posting pics when I get things going.

I went cross-eyed trying to read the whole thing...only made it about 30 pages...

the most confusing thing to me is that nobody could seem to come up with exactly which Rustoleum to use...Industrial, Professional, Stop Rust, etc...

I'll still probably give it a shot...

let us know what you go with and how it turns out...I'm just looking for Gloss Black...

Several of the guys on another forum are using tractor paint to spray their rigs. It comes in many nice colors, is very durable and ready for hard useage and the nice part is it's cheap! Much less jingaling than automotive paints but gives a very nice finish from what they say. Any paint shop or even NAPA can get it.

For a paint gun I suggest you take a look at Eastwood's Restorations link below as they have a good price on some starter gun kits that are considerably better than Harbor Freight stuff. The ones at the link are fine for a home spray job and can give a good finish expecially with your prior skills!

The tractor paint shot with those guns is the plan for my latest project....

My buddy and I have played around with the gloss black (supposedly the hardest to work with) and the results are GREAT. The shine is really good considering what it is. If you don't have any auto body painting experience (like me) I would consider this option. I'll try and snap some pics later if I can. Best part is, you can do it yourself for maybe $50-$100 and you won't have the mess of a spray job. Sure, it doesn't look as good as a $4k job, but it costs only a fraction. I plan on painting my truck with rustoleum pretty soon.

Just got back from the Home Depot with a gallon of Gloss White. First step is to see how bad I suck at bodywork...

I did my cj-7 at work. Viper race yellow. (yellow is one of the hardest colors to paint, doesn't cover well.) I used a polyurathain type auto paint. (not base coat clear coat. (you can screw that up too easy. Polly is easy to spray. 2 or 3 coats and its done. Then let it sit for a couple weeks and wet sand and buff. comes out great and the paint is rock hard. I have a fiberglass body on the jeep and the paint hasn't chipped or spiderwebed at all.

Cost me $350 for all my supplies, got a professional gun set from a buddy, compressor from home depot (when you get the gun, if it doesn't mention it, call the manufacturer to find out the flow per minute rate) did the body work myself. put plastic all over my garage and sprayed it. Got all the supplies from NAPA (ge their best paint, it's worth it) For a work truck it looks great, if it was a show truck I would have spent the money...

I stuck with a single stage paint. You get mixed reviews single versus base clear. I could have mixed the clear in with the top coat but you get mixed reviews with that as well. Prep is key. I took the whole truck down to bare metal due to mopars quality paint dept. Used a primer sealer and laid the body work then another sealer coat of primer and color over the top of that then wet sanded and buffed to the high gloss in the pics. I used the Utec available at the auto paint place. Other than that take your time and be patient. Jethrro
