DIFFERENT HOUSING
I HAVE HEARD THAT WITH TO MUCH FUELING ON A 94 TO 98 MODEL WITH A 12CM HOUSING WILL CREATE EXCESSIVE EGTS PEOPLE RECOMEND A 16 CM HOUSING TO HELP THIS BUT I HAVE AN 18 CM HOUSING OFF OF MY 92 DODGE. WILL IT FIT ON THE HX 35 TURBO AND MAKE EGTS EVEN LOWER AND WILL IT GIVE MORE TOP END POWER.

Re:DIFFERENT HOUSING
Going to a bigger housing will result in alot more lag on the bottom end. To accomodate for this, you have to have enough to fuel to make up for the low end lag response. Switching to the bigger housing will give you lower EGT's, and possibly better top end acceleration.
IMO: you dont need to change the housing until you are over 350hp with your setup. A 14 w/g or a 16 non gated housing works well. The 18 is just too big.

The 96-98 5 speed trucks with the 215 HP engines need a larger housing at 280-300HP. They get very hot at that level.
The 16CM2 housing is generally a non wastegated type.
I used it at the 300ish level and gained about 25HP with it.

Don~

Re:DIFFERENT HOUSING
I've used a 14cm2 wastegated housing (Banks) from for about 140,000 miles. I have never seem EGT's above 1150 degrees - pre turbo, and then only for about 30 seconds hauling my trailer uphill I - like to pass everything I can when I run a hill. You can check my sig for mods. I have adjusted boost several times and still only run 20 to 22 psi boost. I plan on turning up the boost again but I don't expect any major hp gains from that. The truck will set you back in the seat if I really put my foot into it but that generates a lot of black smoke which is a waste of fuel. If I drive reasonably I can keep the smoke down and still have plenty in reserve when I need it. I run 20 to 22 mpg on the highway at a steady 70 mph and 17 to 19 mpg in the city.
Bob
Ive been looking at the 16cm housing and at $150 it seems like the best bang for the buck for a stocker. What do the
14cm w/g housings cost and will they fit on my 21cm turbo????

Thanks
MD

Re:DIFFERENT HOUSING
YOU HAVE THE SAME BASIC TURBO AS I HAVE ON MY 92 BUT AT 92.5 THEY REPLACED THE 21CM HOUSING WITH THE 18CM HOUSING AND I PUT THE 16CM HOUSING ON MINE SO YES IT WILL WORK AND I COULD TELL GOOD DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SPOOL UP 18 AND 16 AND WITH YOU REPLACING YOUR 21 WITH A 16 YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TELL A BIG DIFFERENCE.

You can, however get a 14 non wastegated for 175 bucks. (All prices are from Piers But, going to the 14 on a 1st gen requires you to shorten the downpipe 1 1/2". As 1st Gen mentioned, you will see a BIG difference going to the 16 from the 21. When I switched out the 21 for the 16, the biggest difference was low end spoolup and a redution in exhaust temps. Not too mention, better throttle response on the top end.
