Diesel rat rod in Midland, Tx!

Jay Leno visited Midland, TX and the students at Midland College put on a classic car show figuring Jay would appreciate that. Lots of cool stuff, but my favorite thing was this rat rod that I spotted.

Because I've been all comfy and cozy with that side of the engine due to all the turbo work I've been doing, I spotted and recognized the passenger side of the engine real fast

With where that exhaust exits, I bet that is LOUD when you're driving down the road.

With that funnel as an exhaust tip and the fuel pin he had put in it, it smokes just enough to look like a train running down the road.

How much air do you think that clutch fan is pulling through that radiator?
I am going with none.

Gotta admit it fits right in with the things Rat Rod guys do.
I don't like these contraptions. they do more harm to legitimate streetrods than anything. Most that i have seen are a wreck looking for a place to happen.

Steve Darnell from Welder-Up in Las Vegas. His flatbed tow rig is a beast with a Cummins as well.

I never noticed the engine-mounted air compressor on it before though. Wonder what he's using it for. Horns?

Imagine the devastation you could create with horns that have a dedicated compressor powered by Cummins. I have hearing loss in my right ear from years of air horns and sirens, or maybe it was from the chief yelling at me, I don't really remember. In the promos for Discoverie's collective car shows, you can see it spinning brodies and doing burnouts. It was also featured on a short lived show about Las Vegas car builders...Mark

It looks like the intercooler is in the cab too...

probably so. Is there another reason to leave the fan on?

You could pull the clutch fan, gain power, with what looks like no loss in cooling.

If a 455HO Pontiac powered 52 GMC slow

Really you should see the crap people build and attempt to drive to shows here. It is just bad news. Most people just see a "hotrod" I have no problem with one that Is not a safety hazard but most I see are.
