Diesel Algae

So I've been dealing with some sort of algae and I've been spending money on treatments. It's red and it's so sludge it's been clogging my filters rather fast. I took the tank off and slushed the treatment inside it but it came back (after fuel was clear).

I'm thinking maybe it's in the hoses but it's becoming a pain in my butt.. any thoughts on how to rid my system of this crap.

What are you using for a biocide? I use a product called Biobore. It's used widely in aviation fuel, and it works quite well in diesel #1 and #2. If it keeps coming back, you may be getting it from a contaminated source or perhaps you are not using the biocide correctly. Typically, what grows in the water layer of the fuel is black. But lately I am also seeing a red tent to my fuel. I know in some states they die "off road", or "AG diesel" red for taxation purposes. They don't do that in AK, but most of our fuel is being shipped in from who knows where now. It seems to be thicker and jells easier I found out. That is why, among other reasons I'm preparing my winter fuel earlier this year.

I used bio kleen from power service, I wonder if gasoline would work with some 2 stroke oil. It's pretty nasty.. slimmy too.

Could it be the hoses? Just wondering if they are non OEM (and not diesel compatible) and breaking down internally? Just a thought...

The farm I was on had diesel in a tank and I guess it's contaminated. Which they ended up filling this year, 10000 gallons of so we're treating that. It must have been able to get past their filter system and into a lot of tanks. Bio Kleen seems to be working, first time I've delt with this crap... not to mention my fuel tank strap rusted out so I need to fix that. LOL

If it was off road diesel for farm use it was probably dyed red as cougar mentioned.

My rear strap rusted out last year. Replaced with some nice stainless steel.

Don't get caught running off road diesel. The fines are silly expensive.
