Dexron II or III?
Interesting..
It says Dexron II right on the dipstick but after I had it rebuilt last time I wasn't sure if he said to use II or III but I know he said Do NOT use Ford ATF.
My trans started to slip a bit this morning but only until it warmed up, I think I am going to drop the pan and hope the magnet is clean and then replace the filter.
Thanks Jim

I am not aware of dex II being available anymore. Pretty sure Dex III replaced it. I have been using dex III in 2 different A518 trannies for several thousand miles. So far no issues.
The reason is that it is much cheaper fluid then ATF+3 or +4.

You need to use dex 3 i have built many 727 transmissions if it is factory the clutchs do not like plus 4 Also if you want a little bit of a harder shift and works better for towing you can use type f .
I looked at the couple receipts I had from the trans shop that rebuilt the trans in our 91 a few years ago. The trans shop used ATF +3.
Of course, all I find in the stores is +4 since I believe it superceded +3.
My original 91 manual specifies MOPAR plus fluid but states Dex II can be used if + fluid is not available.

i wanna run type f in my A-518 but i am trying to determine if running type f in the A-518 would be an y different then running it in the 727.
only differences i can see is the A-518 having the overdrive unit, other then that they are basically the same transmission.
