Actually, the Detroit really mellows out with some weight on the tongue. It's running empty when things can get spooky. I actually miss mine and wish I didn't sell it

Smokey fun!
With the oil slick I'm laying down from the rear main, I should be able to get some great drift action, just before I take out a Honda and then a light pole!

I got my truck back today. I have to drive it really nice for a while to break in the new ring and pinion for a while so I can't really run the detroit through it's paces yet. I did hang a wheel in the dirt and gassed it a bit, and there was zero slippage!
I can't wait to hang the rear out.
On the down side, I now have a $2,300 axle!!!! Probably should have just found a Dana 80 and called it good enough, but oh well..... Now I have to fix the rear main, but I have to save up for a clutch first. New radiator is leaking too.

Had $1,400 in parts, ring & pinion, install kit with the bearings, carrier bearings, Detroit Locker, axle seals, and special ratchet lock wheel nuts. One of my wheel nuts was loose, and I could have lost a whell and axle at speed!!!!

Labor was 10 hrs, $900 smackers, but these guys are the best around and I trust them. Still sucks though.....

Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel!

We have a Grand Cherokee with similar habits....
