Dana 71 hubs.

I am doing the rear brakes on my early 91 D350 DRW. I am upgrading to G.M. wheel cyls cuz the brakes really do suck on this truck cuz its HEAVY 12,000#+. It already has 12x3" shoes. I noticed one of my bearing races spins inside the hub. I can't find a hub anywhere, where can I get one at? I can't find a part # on the hub but it does take C/R seal# 30033, which is much bigger in dia. then the other two that the parts books show for that year/model truck.

I would try salvage yards. I would think Napa auto parts could get those hubs.

I thought of that frostie, but the bone yards around me are about useless unless you want a whole front clip or some other body shop specific section of a vehicle. I will try NAPA on Mon. The race does not wobble around it just spins, I am thinking I might be able to use some Locktite for bonding cylindrical parts.
On a second related issue, I want to verify what axle is under this truck, and what ratio. There is some paint marker writing on the diff cover just like you would see in a salvage yard. I can make out the letters STD. But the second set I do not know what it says till I clean the cover. There is no ID tag on the cover bolts. The ring gear numbers are as follows;

Ggg - If you can't find a hub, use some green Loctite, or if you can get ahold of it, Caterpillar "Bearing Lock." I had a bearing spin on the carrier of my D70 a few years ago, and we used the Cat stuff after resetting the backlash and it's holding fine after almost 50k miles.

You can also 'score' the housing that the race sits in, with a center punch. Just enough to make a dimple in 2 or 3 places around the diameter where the race sits. I've had to do this on mine, and while I didn't really like doing it, it's held up fine for the last 5 years. My truck is heavy also, around 14,000.

Good luck!

I checked with NAPA and they can't get the hub either. I will try the "green" locktite. I have used it before and it held up well.

Well I got the brakes all done yesterday, 3" semimetallic shoes w/GM wheel cyls. I drove it a little and used the brakes hard to "seat" the shoes before going on a test drive out in traffic. Took it for a good long ride with lots of stop and go driving. I can say the bigger wheel cyls/new shoes did help a little, but I am less then impressed with the results. Just glad it is a low buck upgrade, and I didn't blow a bunch of cash on it. I have noticed this truck will not get a good hard brake pedal like my other trucks, albeit they are different brands. Can anybody make heads or tails of my ring gear numbers? Want to confirm axle type and ratio.
The ring gear numbers are as follows;

I don't see the ratio in that number, you need to count the number of teeth on ring and pinion gear and divide to get gear ratio.

Pretty sure all 1st gens had a D70 even DRW. I believe that the D70 and D80 share the same carrier though the design of the D80 is stronger. But I don't think they started using a D80 untill the 2nd gens
