D250 ,4th gear?????
D250 ,4th gear?????
I'm thinkin about buyin my friends 92 ext cab, i'v known the truck about 8-9 yrs. ( cowboy used ) The last 4-5 yrs., just drove short distances been sittin mostly the last year. The trans jumps out of 4th., for the last 3-4 yrs, would like to know the least and worst of the problem.
I know very little about the getrags, but not staying in 4th probably means that you have either a problem with the cut on the gear, or syncros? Regardless it should have a rebuild.

I found a site that has all the gears and shafts for the GETRAG. I'm on my work computer but I think I saved in on my home computer. The bearing, syncro, seals and, gaskets are on eBay for around $350. If you have access to a press its an easy rebuild.....I thought anyway. The only thing I think there is a problem getting is anything for/in the aluminum cover.
Most of the time jumping out of gear means the mainshaft is sliding around, or the synchro is worn.
Most of the time it's a mix of pair.
The cause is usually the input gets chewed up on the backside, this is where the extra mainshaft clearance comes in and sometimes it makes them pop out of gear.
But most of the time they get hard to shift, or grind the synchros.
Jer12377, Press? What's that?
Sounds like an extra amenity to me, but then I sleep at the "Indian Motel".
Mark.

I sure was hoping one of you would'v said ,aw heck its a easy fix. I 'v neverhad to rebuild TRANS OF ANY KIND, but w/ u guys in my corner ,,,no worries mate. thanks for the come backs. An cow i'm still thinkin about puttin the dimmer sw., in the floor.
mine's hard to shift and pops out of 1st and 3rd on deceleration unless you hold it in gear. but with 575,984 miles on the drive train (180k on motor) i wouldnt blame it..... holds up to 800 ftlbs like a champ though
