Cummins wont start after power screw adjustment
Cummins wont start after power screw adjustment
Truck:
1989 5.9l cummins 12 valve
What happened:
Adjusted the power screw..and accidentally touched the sensor (not sure what it is) that is connected to the injector pump with pliers..and it caused an arc..and the engine shut off immediately. Now it won't start..just turns over.
And ideas how to get her goin again?

The one with 2 wires under the power screw? Looks like it screws out? That is the fuel shutoff soilenoid, you can take it out and remove the plunger and try to start the truck. Just make sure you remove the wires.

Fuel Shutdown Solenoid.
Not sure where it's wired in the truck, but I would assume that it's either fused, or a fusable link has been tripped / damaged. You need to purchase a FSM for your truck's year, so you can review the wiring diagram to follow it back to either the Igntion switch or first the fuse box.
If it was me, I'd check all the fuses first, then work my way through the fusable links.
It's also possible to damage the FSS itself, but I'd start simple with fuses.
You shorted out the common circuit that powers the FSS and several other control circuits in the engine. You likely blew a fusible link, but may have taken out another weak connector or the ignition switch. I don't see any way you could have hurt the FSS itself.
A quick wire hooked from the FSS to the battery should get it to start up again.
In a pinch you can drive to work like that if you have to.
You would then KNOW it is in the wiring / fusible links and proceed accordingly.
I just now see Mark's post.
So...X2 on what Mark said.
