Much shorter driveline for the RC, I still wouldn't trust that 9.25 in there. You've obviously got some power in that 82, what TC in the 727 though.

i didnt trust it either but it has been in there for 6 years of drag racing and hard street driving. used 9 inch slicks at the strip. had plans for a 9 in. ford but this one has held up well.

*I removed the tub from the D250 just because I wanted to. I just removed four bolts and the emergency brake cable and picked it off. It was really easy to access the transmission mount this way.
*I couldn't move the engine hoist with the weight of the Cummins and the transmission since my driveway is crushed rock. I put a piece of plywood down but the hoist wouldn't budge. So, if you can't get the engine out of the truck you must get the truck from under the engine. I had hoisted the engine up enough to clear the frame and then pulled the truck back about 10 feet. There's more than one way to skin a cat
I added i pic of the centerlink that clears the Cummins oil pan. I'll be moving these steering parts to the Ramcharger

I plan to keep it a 2WD for now. A 4WD conversion could be a project for next year. Maybe. I've been getting 23MPG in the D250 with a 3.55:1 ratio. I'm not sure what ratio the RC has but it's likely to be either a 3.02:1 or a 2.9x:1. I have been maxing out the D250 at 85MPH and it's wound pretty tight above 70MPH. Hopefully I'll be able to run at lower RPMs and get even better fuel economy. I'm not expecting the MPG to be less than the D250. It's just pouring rain today and since I don't have a garage I'm off the project for the now.

Glad to see someone else shares the same ideas as us. We did a Cummins swap in Ramcharger about 4 years ago. It was a 4wd with an '89 CTD and 727. This thing was amazing in the summer on dry pavement but as soon as it snowed, forget about it. Maybe if we took some time and beefed it up a bit it would have done alright, but with the arrival of the '85 Crew Cab the Ramcharger drivetrain got sacrificed for that convert. Being 2wd and half ton for now, this thing will be a blast to drive. Probably as much fun if not more than our P-pumped '90 half ton short box. Best of luck to you and I can't wait to see if finished.

Why? Too much power and not enough weight?

The Ramcharger rear is likely a 3.55 or a 3.91. I'd move the D70 over along with the Cummins.

Yeah exactly, the weight on the front was to much for half ton springs and as soon as it got slick you could go around in circles in 4wd until you puke.

I'll leave the Ramcharger rear axle in. If it starts to be a problem I'll still have the D70 as a backup.

It's still raining. It started raining Friday night and it's now Sunday at about noon and it hasn't stopped yet. My yard is like a lake. I've got 3 acres and the only dry spot is inside the house. It won't be dry enough here to do anything else for at least a week or two. I live in a very flat area where the rain water doesn't run off well. I think I'm going to have to load it all up on the trailer and take it to the shop to finish the job.

I'm about 35 miles NW of Houston TX. The rain has moved south of me now but it's pretty wet outside.
