Cummins to an Allison 1000 transmission

Hey guys and gals. Wondering if anybody has done this, hooked an Allison 1000 up to a cummins. I know I know some may think it blasphemy but you have to admit the Allison can take a lot of abuse. I have found all the things needed to do it but this would be a project down the road. So I'd like a bunch of info on this if somebody has done this and would it work on a 92 W250 and could I still retain the np 205 with this combo. Any help is appreciated

It's not as good as it sounds.. we never could get the tcm to work with everything without going crazy. And the standalone is very expensive, by the time you get it all together you could have built a nice 47 RH vs a stock Allison. I have burnt up stock ones with only 300-350 hp

ya I don't see the point. I would run a ford 4R100 or 5R110 with a PCS controller before an A1000.

I would like a 5 or 6 spd auto tranny. I pull flatbed and stock trailers a bit and would like an extra gear or 2 to keep from damaging either the motor, transmission or both. Or could go with a manual swap

I would go with the manual tranny if you don't mind shifting all the time. If you tow a lot I would look into an exhaust brake also. My $0.02

Well I'd rather get 2 cents than no help at all lol. I've looked into an exhaust brake. Man are they spendy but worth it. Are there any dodge manual transmissions that have 5 spd plus overdrive? I was thinkin the 98.5 on up had some but can't be positive on that

The nv5600 and g56 is a 5spd plus overdrive. I agree with everyone else, stay away from the Allison

well the 5r110 is a 5 spd trans and the 6r140 is a 6 speed ford trans rated for 1400ft lbs I believe and the pcs controller is not that expensive. Overall the ford may be a cheaper option but it's hard to say. None of it will be cheap, that's for sure.

An a1000 is a nice trans too. Just consider your options and you'll be alright.

Gyman, I had a 09 dodge 2500 with the g56 in it. It was just a 6 spd with no overdrive in it. The nv 5600 would be nice to find on a a reasonable price and horde till I get all the parts

Dodge has always done that. Even the 5th gears in the getrag and nv4500's were overdrives

Ohhh ok. I guess I'm use to seeing OD on the shift ****. I'll have to stop at the local junkyard to see if he has a 98.5 up 2500 and a early 90's 250 to get everything

I think I'm gonna go the easier way and go with a manual swap. Whole lot easier, IMO
