Cruise control and clock spring
Cruise control and clock spring
Ok, I am finally going to try and get my cruise control working. For a while it was intermitent. Now it just doesn't work. I check the buttons on the steering wheel. They are OK. According to previous posts, I guess the next step is the clock spring. How do I get to it and what am I looking for? Everything else (turn signals, wipers and horn) works. Any other suggestions?
Let me know when you find the problem. My cc is intermittent (sp?) also. As far as the clock spring, I can tell you what I have read on here. Make sure your front tires are straight ahead, pull the steering wheel, and then the plastic white cap that says "Do not remove".
I was getting ready to proceed with checking the clockspring when mine all of a sudden started working. Some have said they repaired loose connections on the end of the spring.

You have to remove the steering wheel. The plastic housing that plugs into the steering wheel is the cog spring. I believe that you need to remove the lower plastic piece of the colum to get to the other connector. Just plug it from both ends and check continuity.
What it is, is there is basic a ribon cable in the housing that tights and loosens when you turn the wheel. The horn, wipes, and turn signals dodn't use it. It is soley for the cuirse and I believe airbags in earlier models.
