The critters under my hood!!

Thought I'd pass on the status of the darn rat(squirrel, maybe!!) that's been tearing my insulation up. For fear of electrical and vaccum line damage( pacifiers/chew toys for these critters!) I baited the truck with poison food bars (yum yum) around the wiring harness at the drivers side, on top of the windshield wash reservoir, down at the fabric that is clipped on the drivers side fender, and a couple on the fabric that covers the gap between the fron tof the truck and the cooling coils. Did I mention 2 more (12 total poison bars) on top of the transmission protection plate? Finally, 2 rat traps baited w/ Jiffy's on top of the valve covers, and a 4" x 7" glue trap on top of the battery, and that too is baited.

Results: All the bars are gone, and keep on disappearing, and the glue trap is upside down in the headlite compartment under the battery, with nothing on it but foot prints and 5 hairs!!!

He, or whatever it is, is totally avoiding the traps! Sucker, man. Guys, give me tips on keeping these critters out of the engine compartment, fast!!

My guess is that it takes a while for the poison to act. If it were a faster acting poison the rats would sense it and not eat it. Keep the bait replenished and eventually the problem will go away but don't expect to see dead rats in there or in your garage.

For a poison bar to dissappear each day, either he has told his friends of a smorgy or he keeps comin' back 3 weeks of this now, and i am out of bars. Not one dead critter around anywhere! Flies and stank would lead me to a carcass, but nada.

Go look in the nearest creek for some possum carcasses. When the poison starts working, they want water.

I got this straight off the glue-trap box.

"A minimum of six hairs must adhere to achieve positive results."

a rat in my house ate everything i nthe house, chewed holes in doors and chewed live electrical wires in half, i used baited live traps, baited rat traps, baited sticky traps, not a dang one of them worked, he got in the live traps and ate the food, and he would set the other traps off and eat them clean or drag them up under the cabinets, but 1 full cup of poision then 2 7.62x39 shells to got rid of Fred, yes we named the rat Fred. Fred was just shy of being possum sized, bags of poision pellets work the best to slow him down then take'em out with small arms fire, you laugh, im serious. someone has pictures of it somewhere. i shot 2 coons in the kitchen last nite with my .357. long story.

A good friend of mine has a new truck and hybrid car that he brings to us when they go out of town for this very reason. He has replaced a wiring harness on the truck and rats ate through a hose on his car causing him to have to replace the entire motor. He tried the rat poison....more just kept on coming so he just gave up and brings them to us and tells us to drive them every day so they won't be sitting still.

Well, back around '77 or so I first moved out of Mom'nDad's into what apparently was an old "Row House". I'd be surprised if it didn't have all the history one might imagine.

um . . . . . . there was this rat,. . ... .. then there was Rat-Shot,. . .. . .. then there was no rat.

The house was definitely a fix-er-upper.

There are two generations of would-be snipers, who have fired countless "bricks" of .22LR ammo, that have no idea what a "RAT-SHOT" cartridge even looks like.

Way back in the good old days, when I was about five, my father turned me loose with an old 551 Remington and rat-shot, as it wouldn't shoot as far as the real stuff.

I was probably six, before he let me have lead-bullet "shorts", and eight, by the time I got to use long-rifles.

I thought those long-rifles were equal to a howitzer.

Years ago in an old house I shot a mouse with my bb-gun air pistol with a peep sight. Wear safety glasses!!!!!!

Savage is making a .22 single shot smoothbore, just over $130 or so. I got one last year for birdshot, sweetness. The only things shot so far have been hornets!!!!

Well, I went to my wife's pottery class and scored on some clay. I molded the clay to the shape of rats, and had these dummy rats hang out by the rat traps, hoping to attract the critter. My goal is to simulate a rat feeding frenzy. Hope it works. Some of the insulation stuck on the clay when I lowered the hood, and maybe the "hairy" look will add to the stimulation. I'll post my results.
