Converter or Valve Body

Which is more important when building a tranny for one of these trucks, the converter or the valve body? Or do they each have their pros and cons, or need them both to work together? Which would you do first, or would you save and do them both at the same time? I have the auto with OD. Thanks for any advise!!

I would save and do them both at the same time...........If i could only do one before i installed the tranny, Hm well...............I would do the T/Q first.

You can drop a valve body out with the tranny still in.

I agree do the TQ first. It's more expensive but from what I have read it will make a big difference in how the truck acts. Ex. original TQ loose and slips a little not sending all power to ground, aftermarket tighter and better distributes power . Just make sure you research it very well and find the best one that will suit your needs.

my opinion is this, i really like the idea of hughes rebuilding, though i havent done it yet, im going to use them because its like $400 shipping included to get a triple disk rebuild, and if i read correctly, you can set your stall speed as low as 1200 rpms i think. and on the valve body, instead of changing the whole thing for $400, i am going to use the shift kit from trans-go. its good for better shifts, but the whole kit is only $60, you take your pick

I plan on doing the exact same thing as Gomerpile. Hughes needs your converter to rebuild it as they have no cores. the price is right too. I plan to establish base mpg numbers before and after the tc upgrade to see how much of a difference it makes.

Hmmm........ Thanks for all the input. I have a company close to home that built a triple disc converter for my dads powerchoke, for i think $300, and he seems to like it. I didn't even realize they made a shift kit for this tranny, so thats cool. But what is the difference in putting a shift kit in or having the whole valve body rebuilt? Thanks!!
