Cold Blooded transmission?
Cold Blooded transmission?
I have been sniffing around this forum for a few days now, and you guys rock. I am wondering how serious my transmission's problem is. I have a 92 D250 LE 2wd auto. In the morning I'll crank and warm up the engine until the heates quit cycling but when I put it in gear I slips for another minute, then its fine for the rest of the day. I thought it might be drain back but that only seems to be the case when it sits for a couple of hours. I'll let the oil pressure guage come up before putting it in gear. Please be gentle i'm a newbie.

Yep that sounds like the typical A518. Usually starting the truck in neutral instead of park resolves that particular issue. In park the tranny doesn't circulate very much fluid and usually won't fill the torque converter until you put it in gear or neutral, which is where the initial slip comes from.
So I shouldn't worry about this until I can afford an upgrade? (just replaced both lift and IP)
Then what should i look to ( daily driver 17+ mpg. would like to cuise a little faster than 60 )

are you saying the fastest your truck will go is 60?! there's definately an issue there if that's true. make sure it is shifting into OD and check out the throttle linkage. have someone push the pedal to the floor (truck off) and make sure you are getting full travel, the stock linkage can get pretty sloppy.
Miciahfied, thanks for your input, I can go faster than 60, but any faster and the RPM's are high for my taste. If I cruise at 70 then i get 15 MPG. I can go slow for money
, besides with a trucks like ours people move
