Clutch suggestions

Need some suggestions on choosing a new clutch. 92dodge w250 cummins all stock with tow package from factory. Old clutch is a Sachs. I pull a dump trailer occasionally as well as a skid loader from time to time. Should I stick with what came from the factory or something different? Would like to spend between $500 and $600. It has the Getrag 360 5 speed.

i have been doing some research on this subject as well. based on what you have said i would think the stock sachs setup is what you would want. what i have been told that as long as you let the clutch fully engage before rolling the coal the sachs will hold. just doesn't like to be slipped. but someone with more firsthand experience should chime in.

Sachs is the best value for your application.

The sachs that I have in there is probably original and the truck has 185,000 miles on it. That probably is a good indication on the quality.

that clutch should last you quite a bit longer. that is, if you're the original owner and know that it hasn't been driven hard or slipped.

I bought the truck with 155,000 on it. Whoever had it before did some substantial pulling.

have you had it out to look at it? do you know if it's significantly worn to the point of needing a replacement? i've heard that the sachs will easily hold up to about 400hp. given the fact that it doesn't get slipped and is fully engaged before stepping on the go pedal.

I have seen nothing in the aftermarket world that is as dependable and long-lasting as the SACHS.

I see them at the diesel shop installing all kinds of trendy name-brand clutches, and I then see them have those fancy clutches in and out a dozen times, trying to get them right, while the guys with 300,000-miles and the original SACHS just keep on driving.

I recall reading about dia. differences, something like 12.25 or so and a "true" 13". I wonder if this is sthg that you should also consider, and if so, does Sachs make a 13" for your application?
Maybe someone will chime in with better knowledge than me.

I have the tranny at the shop getting rebuilt. I took the clutch out the other night and it seems to be worn on the flywheel side a little bit more than the other. It also seems like the lining is a little loose on the disc itself so for that reason it just seems like the smart thing to do. I don't want to take the tranny down again for a long time. That thing weighs a ton.

find yourself a sachs clutch on ebay. for what you're doing, it'll hold up just fine and last you for a while as you've read.

to answer billut's question, the sachs that came with getrags in our trucks have 13" clutches from the factory.
