OK maybe someone can chime in with personal experience. I'm currently scheming on how I can convert my club cab into an area in which people would actually be willing to sit. I'm considering trying to find a rear bench seat out of either a 2nd Gen Dodge or a F250 rear seat since they are pretty compact. If that doesn't work then I may end up building something myself. I obviously need something that is flat with seat belts so that I can fasten a car seat for the kiddo.

Has anyone retrofitted a normal seat into the rear of the Club Cabs?

That post has all you need to know, I wondered the same a while back, when it comes time I'll build my own.

There is a link in the end of the post to canwill.com. They make a rear bench for our trucks but it's expensive. If you do somethin' let us see what ya come up with.

 

I've eyeballed my buddy's seat in the back of his 2nd gen CC and I just don't think the room is there for that particular swap. If the passenger seat in the 1st gen were able to slide forward, you might be able to pull it off, but I think the driver's seat would have to be a little forward as well.

Also, you're going to have to re-engineer seatbelt mounts and that will involve beefing up the area under the cab so it ties in to something solid at the anchor points.

I guess if you put 2nd gen seats in the front and rear that might work out, but I've never even eyeballed that.

We've only got two kids, so my plan is to set up a small card table (the kind from a conversion van that uses a socket in the floor) between the back seats so the kids can play games or watch movies when we're on the road.

 

I've seen pictures of 1st gen with 88-90something Chevy rear seats put in and they look factory.
The truck I've got now has a bech the p/o put in.i'll try to shoot some pic's tonight.

I have put 2 kids in carseats and took a ride to see how it was gonna work. In a bind it'll work but other than your seats are to close to dash the kids are facing the middle which would not be good in a front or rear collision.

I really really like that idea.... You guys have tipped me out on my head again... the other half is convinced that we need to aquire a 4 dr crew 1st gen for the kiddies in order for me to "maintain my way of life and hobbies" in the life after kiddies are around... won't be for another 3-5 years though.

really really sharp setup.. a nice bench for the car seats , and then for the mini-mees get sitting on their own it is just their size... won't have to upgrade to a crew for another 15 years or so...

As far as comfort,I wouldn't want to travel more than 4hrs back there,but other than that it's all good.

 

You all better measure a car seat and see if that is going to work. Most rear facing seats hardly work in a Sedan or SUV, nevermind an old ext cab. I would hate to see someone do all that work to find out they can not adjust their seat up far enough when the child seat is rear facing. Forward facing is no sweat, it is just that first rear facing 12 months that are challenging.

 

raggmann that looks really good, can you supply more info about your install? Measurements mainly and how they installed the seatbelts. I am trying to figure out if I can fit several car seats back there.

 

im interested in all the information i can get about your rear seat too. my xcab came with no rear seats, and ive got 3 kids. at least i dont have a car seat, just a booster for the youngest that takes up no more room than my fat butt.

YES,I will be sure to check it out tonight and try to get measurements.
The seat belts look to be the easiest part of this changeover.Being the factory front bench is gone,I used the centre belt for the centre of the rear seat.The jumpseat retractable belts were left at the back corners of the cab and just the buckles moved.The p/o had the belts all messed up.
If you guys want to p/m me a fax # I could shoot you off some hand drawn pictures with sizes (that the easiest for me).
