clarification pls...star wheel vs smoke screw

I'm trying to understand the difference between the star wheel adjustment and the smoke screw adjust on the diaphragm. From what I can find, both increase or decrease the tension on the spring. After reading various descriptions, I still don't quite understand the differences. Anyone?

Recent new owner, getting ready to make the adjustments.....Thanks

The star wheel controls the amount of pressure needed to start the AFC cone moving, the smoke screw sets the point the AFC cone starts from. Put another way: the smoke screw adjusts how much fuel you can get with zero boost. The star wheel adjusts how much boost you need to get more fuel.

Hope that clears it up - I'll keep trying until you get it.

Yup, that's all I need to know. Couldn't quite tell that from the posts and pictures. So, the smoke screw simply sets the starting point for the rod on the pin?

Thanks!
