CI Rated oil

The Case dealer was advertising CI rated oil and stopped in to see what they had. Sure enough they carry it for some of their older rigs.

Changed the oil in the crew and I swear the engine runs a little quieter!!!

I didn't think this stuff was still available.

I know I spent over a month going form retailer to retailer looking for the CI rated oils, couldn't find any. So I just went with the Walmart Super Tech diesel 15W40 oil, and then added two of Comp cams engine break in additive. Now my oil has lots of Zinc and other high friction and pressure additives.

Never did stop at the Case dealer though. I'll keep that in mind. What brand was it under?

The CI rating means it has a higher Zinc and other wear and high pressure additives. Most oils now days are designed for modern roller motors that don't require the same additives as our old motors do.

But Rottella is owned by Shell I believe, and they no longer have the higher zinc and ZDDP additives either. Your paying for a name that's it...IMO.

This is why I decided to use the Comp cams engine break in additive, since it has all the stuff they take out of the oil. So now I can buy what ever oil I want and not have to worry about it's rating.

Thats interesting, didnt know that about oil. The last time I changed it I used Conoco fleet premium to get rid of the rotella smell. Its cheaper oil and seems prety good. Heres a question about the breaking in additive, doesnt it promote engine wear to make the parts fit to each other fast??? Or am I thinking of somthing else lol???
