Charging system problems

Charging system.

I found out last night that the charging system on my RC isn't working right... I was good for about 45 minutes then lights out, and then i was playing the "i hope i make it to an outlet" game.

I found the "instructions" that came with the regulator to be less than helpful, considering that my wiring harness has 30 wires and i'm supposed to hook up to 4 of them...

If anybody knows an easy way to "hot wire" the alt so i can manually turn the charging circuit on and off, PLEASE HELP

Thanks,
Nick

I forgot there is a sticky on this...the wiring for the alternator.

I'm still interested in how to hotwire this thing.

Look in the sticky about wiring an external voltage regulator.

Full fielding the alternator, as you call "hot wiring", can produce voltages in excess of 20+ volts or more at idle. This is not a good thing to do.

I had a bad regulator, i got a napa regulator and direct wired it and it charges perfect right now. Top dead center of gauge, and it reads 14 volts.

Thanks

It's funny my 92 reads past TDC 1/4" or so. Put the voltage meter on there 14.5V.

My 90 reads 1/4" below TDC put the gauge on there 14.8V.

Go figure

The voltage gauge is the most accurate of any gauge in the truck... I need to find a 4spd 318 wiring harness didn't save the one connector i needed
