Catching up
Bringing my old friends up to date, I found a serviceable Dana 70U with Traction Lock at a salvage yard near Richmond VA. I used my hubs and brakes and with the help of one of my retired buddies we managed to swap it out on a weekend. So far it is quiet and doesn't leak. It came from a burnt 2wd truck. The Jasper unit I had installed died after the 37th month of their 36 month warranty. Cannot recommend them for rear end overhauls.
Aamco has stood behind the transmission rebuild 100% for me even though the were told up front that the engine was pumping out near double what was designed. They recommended I install an auxiliary cooler which I did plus I replaced the trans pan with a nice B&M aluminum deep pan. Running ATF 4 normal temp at the sump is about 120 F on a hot day. About 160 F while abusing it.
I had numerous leaks on the transmission cooling lines that I managed to stop using neoprene hose, compression couplings and numerous hose clamps.
My next project is fixing the A/C I cannot find a new refrigeration line anywhere. The capillary tube broke off inside the line and the schrader valve stem spins but won't come out on the low pressure port. Guess I will have to drill it out and seal it with a R134a adapter.

It is my understanding the Dana 70u has the same pinion shaft and pinion bearings as the Dana 60. It is the light duty version of the Dana70. The cover plates are inter changeable according to Summit Racing.
I remember hitting 200 plus degrees while towing before I installed the pan and the aux cooler.

A hose shop might be able to make up an AC hose for you. There's a company in Harrisburg PA that I've used before called Hose Help Inc., (717) 234-6432, that may be able to help you out. They're decent to deal with and reasonably priced. Little mom and pop type place.
