Can a 1st gen cummins engine be p-pumped??
Hey guys, Im just wondering if a 1st genaration cummins could be p-pumped? i know that you can do it on a 24v but im just curious as to weither it can be done on a older 12v with the bosch ve rotary pump.

With a hopped up 14mm ve pump and big injectors, about 500-600hp can be had. P-pump trucks can usually make about 800-1000hp, but that's with a highly tweaked pump. For the conversion you'll need the pump and gear, lines, gear cover, different injectors, a new lift pump, all the engine and trans linkages, and a second-gen starter. Maybe more. Figure at least 1000 bucks for the swap unless you come across a wrecked 2nd gen you can steal stuff off of.

i dont know a whole lot about the pumps but i heard you can get plenty out of a ve pump. the p-pump stands for piston pump and it in itself is like a small engine. the p-pump engines do sound a bit different. i also heard after so much power a p-pump will lope like a fat cam and it wont be streetable. the p-pump stands for piston pump and it in itself is like a small engine.
Wow, you are good at playing repeater
. Just busting ya.
I was just curious as to why he thought you had change the starter. I've had my hands in a p-pump swap and didn't change the starter.

I don't think the ve pump is garbage i just think it would be cool to have a p pumped first gen. a pacitence teen ager like me could find a 2500 dollar 1st gen cummins like project rust bucket that diesel power is doing if he searches long enough. Would a holley black pump work for a lift pump? i no theres quiet a few dmax guys doin over at duramax forum??
How much does a 14mm head and rotor cost and how durable is it? I understand people trying new things and proving common opinion that "the rotary pumps are garbage" wrong, but I wonder what the difference in price of a 14mm vs P pump setup is once the sale of the no longer used VE, injector lines and timing case are factored in.
Check out Rocken-Tech.com. They have the 14mm h&r for $306 and change shipped to my door. I've heard that the thing not to buy, and maybe it's because of some people don't make the accommodations for the lift, is the 4mm camplate. I haven't yet taken the 14mm dive so I'm not sure.
And I think I've seen people post in the past about the 14mm durability? Either way, factoring in what a used VE/lines goes for, and what you should be able to scrounge up a P pump for, you'd be into a P pump setup for more $, but you'd have a pump that is supposedly more durable, and would be able to supply enough fuel for big HP. Of course, you'd be looked at as a traitor by the die hard VE guys, and if you're looking for "top dog" status, there's only a few guys pushing the VE, while there's a ton of people w/ P pumps.
