Angry A/C compressor, clutch burned up to day

So i'm siting in the parking lot at lunch with the ac on, eating my lunch form the local fast food place and all the sudden i'm notising this burnt smell couming for out side the vehice and i start to see were its comming from and the i notise this little smoke trail cumming from between the front of the fender and hood!
I shut the truck off and raseded the hood to see what was going on.
the a/c clutch was smoking a little. turned the a/c off and restarted the truck.....no smoke and all seamed good, after a fue minutes, turned the a/c back on and off a fue time just to see if the belt would sqeek but nothing
drive back to work no probem.
left work tonight and drove home with the ac on!.........
It ack as if nothing had ever went wrong!?
I'm hoping that the clutch is just getting old and is the hole probem....and its cheeper then the hole compresser!

Heres my delema. thru chry, the clutch is ns1. I can by a new or reman compressor but it comes with out the clutch!
Napa has a compleat compressor w/clutch but still no compressor clutch by it self.
dus any body have a sight that could help me out of this delema
I don't want a compressor for 2 reason 1 it don't make any exsedive noise and i don't want to dischare the R12 system, that i just filled when i replace the leaking condencer!
O and 3 cus i'm a cheep-0
Any help or info would be grately aprish!

you cannot be as much a cheap skate as me. the difference in the price of a clutch and the whole compressor is not but a few dollars. Changing the whole unit is a drag but r134a does work and it is a lot cheaper than r12 unless you are one of the fortunite few that has a jug of it in his/her garage.
