so i FINALLY got do drive my 92 the 230 miles home from San Luis Obispo, and i gotta say..... i love it! its comfy, big, can get out of its own way, and gets decent mileage!!!!!!! i wasnt able to fill the tank completely so i cant get an accurate number, but according to the gauge ive gone about 330 miles after putting 17 gallons in the gauge still reads above where it was when i filled it. i know this is a totally inaccurate way of finding MPG's but theres not much i can do till i actually fill er up! according to my morons method of figuring MPG's im getting over 17mpgs, which reallly makes me happppy!
anywho, the trip was great. drove the whole way home at about 65 in cruise control, which works, much to my glee. the EGT's never made it past 700* and the probe is mounted in the manifold, pre turbo. most boost i've seen is about 15-20 psi, but i try not to wind it too high as im trying to be a fuel miser as best i can. at about 65-68 mph on level ground she cruises at about 1800rpm, which i dont see as too unreasonable. after 70 its 2000rpm. either way im still going to look into a new TC. there is also a gauge labeled "Oil Temp" which i am assuming is transmission temperature? it does not specify engine or tranny oil, but it never got past 140*, which seems too low for either tranny or engine. if it were tranny or engine temp where would i locate the probe? the only other concern i have is a very faint noise that i hear when the car is either stopped in drive, or idleing in drive. it makes a sound like a squeaky wheel, almost like a belt that is just barely starting to slip, but like i said, its very faint. i can only hear it at a certain RPM, which can only be reached when the vehicle is in Drive at a stop or idling which makes me wonder whether it is the tranny or just an engine noise that only happens at that rpm?>
anyway, i love this truck and i look forward to many happy miles with it.
any input is as always, much appreciated.

Congrats! Glad your first ride was a good one! I know when I told the guy I bought mine from that I was gonna drive it from Mass. to upstate NY he kinda got pale...must have had something to do with the pieces of pinion gear I found in the rear axle!! Your temps/speeds etc sound good. You'll have to follow the wires from the gauges to see what they measure--or, you could ask the previous owner. As for the squeak, it could be a lot of things, but I suspect perhaps a serp belt or related pulley/tensioner? Time to give the new toy a good once over---it'll be therapy for both of you

couple things i forgot to mention, it does have that signiture dodge CLUNK when its put in reverse. my ramcharger had it, only worse. i cant quite remember but i think it had something to do with the slip joint needing grease or somthing like that. could also be U-joints. i'll definatly have to check those out. one thing that really bugs me: the T-case lever vibrates and makes this annoying buzzzzz sound that will soon drive me crazy. imma have to get in there and see if i can find something to dampen the vibe.

The vibrationon the T-Caser lever is the norm for the first gens.... slip a peice of tubing or garden hose over the linkage and it will quite right down....

keep a roll of duct tape around the transfer case lever.. if they added another water temp sender it would probably be in the front of the head, if thats a tranny temp gauge its probably in the bottom of the pan or a return line judging from the temp reading your getting.
Karsten - changing the belt is easy. Go get a Gatorback belt from Napa or where ever. Then with a 1/2" ratchet, plug that into your idler pully and just twist it. It will move (loosen) the pulley allowing you to slip off the belt from the Alt.
Reverse for putting the belt on. You do NOT need to remove the idler pulley.
Only problem there may be is the radiator shroud may not be so easy on your knuckles. They have been known to bite a little so be careful...

The oil temp gauge is a trans temp gauge. You weren't working the truck, so I wouldn't be surprised if the temp never got over 140.
Even with the POD injectors mine still gets 18 mpg @ 70 mph. I bet your "moron mileage" isn't far off.
