Broke the oil pressure sending unit, is it safe to run without?

Again, beating a dead horse, am I safe to run it as it is for an extended drive (2.5hours highway each way) or am I asking for this thing to pop out and dump the oil out and cook my motor? I took it out for a short, 5 minute test drive and it was fine so I don't see any problems with it, knock on wood. I checked the oil and it was at the right level.

Thanks

WELLLLL i think that we are all in the dark on this......take a pitcher of the broken peases so that we can Guess better!

I put some pics up in my gallery of the whole deal, just waiting for approval. It doesn't leak and I don't think there is much pressure put of the whole area so I can't see it just randomly blowing out on me. I'm going to be super careful and watch for any oil, smoke etc during the drive. Wish me luck guys.

I got the sender from an auto store for ~20. If I had to do it again though, I'd put a mechanical gauge in. JMO

From what i can see in you pic's the nut part of the sending unit is still there
If it is, just take it out and replace it! For me it would be worth the piece of mind JMO

Yea, or plug it: $1 for a plug, or a blown engine? Decisions, decisions......

If yours is like mine, and i think it is you will need to get a sending unit socket! thay are a valible at all your parts stores!
when or if you by a new sending unit just ask them if thay have a socket that well fit it!

The book says its 1" so couldn't I just take a 1" socket, back it out, and replace with a plug?

If it will fit and hold go for it, just remeber that one, it has to be a deep socket (so you can install the new sending unit) and two, that deep socket is probably what caused the large pease of the conector(that the wire plugs in to)
and snapped it off, be for.

Just some thing to consider.

Haha, again I don't look to far ahead and see potential problems. Well I'm going to plug it for now but a new sending unit is in the making. Napa claims they don't offer it and neither does Canadian Tire. I'm going to call Partsource (Canadian version of autozone/pepboys etc) and see if they have it available.

Thumbs up

Well I went to napa this morning and after some serious number checking, the guy got me the socket and the sensor and I had it fixed within 5 minutes. Now my truck is back to normal (thank God) and I'm tickled pink with the new powersteering.

I had to replace mine yesterday. The light was flickering but the gage was fine. Got a new one, installed it, then the light was on solid and the gage ok.

Turned out to be the next connector in the line - the black one at the rear of the block on the driver's side.

Blew it out with electical contact cleaner. Works now.
