Break prices
Break prices
So today I went to my local Canadian Tire for prices on new breaks.
they told me
60-110 for front rotors
40-80 for pads
70-140 for drums
40-80 for shoes
So I went to my local dodge dealership to see what they have
450 for front rotors
225 for pads
400-550 for rear drums
250 for shoes
What is the reason for the huge difference in price?

OEM parts vs. aftermarket parts. the OEMs cant compete with the aftermarket prices, therefore they dont produce nearly as much volume. in order to recoup the cost of manufacturing, the price is astronomical. they dont have volume to rely on for profit. OEM parts are generally of much higher quality. the last new truck i bought was an 07' ram 1500. the brakes were not even half worn when i got rid of it with 50k miles on it. if you get 30k out of aftermarket brake parts your doing good.
no, not in my opinion. i wasnt trying to get anybody to buy them. just stating why they cost so much. i would never personally buy much of anything from the dealer unless it was dealer only. and lets face it, there arent a whole lot of service parts for our trucks left that are "only" available from the dealer. (if any)

Have you looked into a local NAPA just for comparison? Google NAPA Prolink and fill in the blanks, use CASH as your password and user id. Most NAPA places are pretty good about giving you trade price for your parts if you say you work for any company.
