Brake lines for D70 disc conversion
Brake lines for D70 disc conversion
Getting ready to head to the parts store to get what I need for my disc conversion. Pretty sure I know what I need to get except for the brake lines. Does anyone know what car/truck application I can use for brake lines? Or do I have to get a custom made/internet ordered line? I'd much rather just pick up everything I need at one place (my local parts store).
Thanks!
Edit: I'll be using chevy calipers.

As far as the hard-pipe goes, I just got basic pre-made straight lengths from the parts house and manually bent to fit. The SS braided flex lines I ordered from Summit.
EDIT: You will need to use flex-lines at the new movable rear calipers.

On my last conversion (non dodge but applicable) I used the soft rubber lines that matched the application that matched the calipers I had used.
That way I knew there wouldn't be any problem with banjo or copper washers as it was all meant to go together.
So on mine I used 70's 3/4 ton chebby calipers and just used soft rubber lines for that application then dug around in the napa pile o' hard lines to find the fittings on either end and length I needed.

So after looking on the Rockauto site, I see that the soft lines for this application would probably work out. I know that the dodge is a 3/8"x24 and so is the chevy. Only problem is that they are both male fittings. Would my local auto store have a 3/8"x24 female/female adaptor? If so, then all I would have to source out after that would be the banjo bolts, which should be easy to find.
I also searched around on the rockauto site and found a brake line from a '70 C20. It looks to have a 3/8"x24 female on one side (which would be a direct bolt in for the dodge) and a 7/16"x20 on the caliper side (the same size as the chevy caliper inlet). The only problem I could see is that it does not use a banjo bolt, just a regular fitting sealed with a copper washer. If it bottomed out before the threads bottomed out then it wouldn't seal at all. Wonder if this would work?
I appreciate all the help, guys! I really don't know much about fittings for brakes, but I am learning big time on this project. I've also gotta admit that this swap looked wayyy easy, but then I got to the brake lines and I got stumped!

Greg.... let me buy them and send them to you! I can go to o'reilly right now!
I called them and gave them thier part number and he said the computer told him that the application was a GM 69-73 the reason I went with this line is that it has the correct ends but is also only about 11" long. I searched for a while to find it back there hope this helps you out.
