D70 Dually Disc Brake Kit

Anyone used these folks or anyone else for a dually D70 disc brake conversion? Says for use on the 70HD under the Chebbys, but surely they didn't change them up too much huh?

http://diy4x.com/cart/index.php?rout...&product_id=50

here's another one, just way more money and i'm under the impression that it was made for the 94+ tho they assure me that it'll work on the 93 down

http://www.blackbirdscustomtrucks.co...0.html#8dually

Ideas, opinions?

Thanks,
James

I have used other kits from diy4x.com before and they are always very good. Give kurt a call if you are unsure if they will work.

He is very well known in the chevy offroad world.

I was hoping to order them so they'd be there when i got home and i'm not sure if i'll have time before then to give him a call, i usually save my phone calls for family from over here lol. Looks like he has some great products for chebbys, we'll have to figure out how to convert him fellas, lol

Thanks,

James

The D80's from a dually can have disc brakes, but they look like they have dually extensions similar to the front differential to clear the inner dual or something weird looking. I'm afraid there are not any disc brake options for a D70 dually. I'm pretty sure it all has to do with the inner dually wheel not clearing the caliper/rotor. If you do find a source, let us know, but I can't see how it's going to work on this type of axle.

Nope, I'm good. Just letting the original poster know that since it worked well for a single wheel truck, that it did not mean it would work for his dual rear wheel truck. I saw your signature and noted you had a W250, so I asked for clarification. Chill, all in good faith of helping each other out.

The whole thing with a dually axle is the increased distance between the hub, and the backing plate flange. Essentially, the drum is deeper and more tapered for the extra inboard offset on the dually wheel.

One solution is to use something like a Savana/Express 3500 dually rear rotor. Its very deep (over 5") which puts your caliper far enough inboard to clear the dually wheel. Then get a generic caliper bracket and find a way to mount it to the existing backing plate flange.

I constantly wonder why the Dana 80 in my grandpa's '02 DRW has discs with 16" wheels. Yet, it's always said about our Dana 70s that 16" wheels won't clear the calipers.

That being said, aren't hubs/wheel-ends interchangeable between Dana 80 and 70 axles??

Easy. Its because the rotor and caliper are far enough inboard to clear. The dually hub flange on the disc brake Dodge is about 3" thick. I'll try to get a pic of my E350 DRW disc arrangment - same idea.
