And plan on putting it in my 78 power wagon. Im pondering in my head what to do about the tranny. I currently have a 4 speed in the Dodge, and wouldnt mind leaving it, and "making" the dodge tranny mate up with the ferd bell housing, but I have 3.55 gears in the 78, and know Id need at least 3.08 gears. I cant find a nv4500 or a getrag to put in place of the 4 speed.
What would you guys do? Put a 5 speed inn it if I can find one, or stick with my 4 gear and put airplane gears in the ol dodge?

hey-Hey!!!,
Seems to me that the key to getting a Dodge trans is just getting the right engine plate to put in between them. Don't leave out the G56, that is by all accounts a fine shifting trans. The NV5600 has a long OD just like the NV4500 but offers better gear spacing and strength( not to mention ability to stand on it in 6th from idle on upwards ).
What's normal duty for a 24V HO clutch is adequate overbuild for a 4BT; consider the Luk 05-101 for the ETH-spec engine.
cheers,
Douglas

This is an everyday rig. My toy. The $bt on the drive home had similar manors to the 360 in the truck now. I dont think its too far off on HP and TQ. This bread truck isnt light, and Im more after the mileage, and cool factor. I plan on opening it uo, checking ring wear, and check bearings. I need to flip the pan, and fine a rear sump for the oil pick up.

That's what I did when I repowered my Scout, still going 10 years later.
Nice, I'd really like to stick a 4bt into a 78 f100 or a 68 c10...I think that'd be the way to go.
You should head over to 4btswaps.com and do a little looking around. I can't tell what pump it has on it, but I think that's the determining factor on hp. I think the ve is something like 95-105 hp and the p pump is somewhere around 135. But, like said, mods are identical to the 6bt, better turbo bigger injectors, tune the pump, etc...
