boost and pyro install

Hi Guys, time to install a boost and pyro gages. Picked up Pricol Optics C307534 and C307423 for 240 + t.

A couple quick questions;

Where is a good spot to tie into the dash lights, the dash is out.

I plan on drilling into the exhaust manifold at the roof of the rear port where it necks down at the start of the run to the turbo flange. Sound about right?

Thanks.
Dave

Dave, i am out in the garage installing my pyro right now! just came in to double check the measurements on where to drill/tap for the probe! coincidence???
per TST and Piers you should mount the probe 2 " up from the turbo flange and 5/8" to the rear from center..

here is a diagram and discussion:

Good luck with yours and wish me the same!
I was gonna pull the turbo to catch the shavings, but cant budge the bolts...
have the whole manifold loose( replacing gasket at same time) and a vacuum hose stuck down the #4 manifold port, hope it works.......

Chris, perfect! Thanks. I got side tracked today and didnt get much done how is your install doing?

Wanna, 14 goes to a Orange wire then a round connector behind the dash that gives 10.5 to 11.5v depending on the position of the dimmer. I plan on cutting in near the plug, unless there is a way to plug in to the fuse box?

The instructions call for a power lead "to batt from the ign switch" are they asking for switched or constantly hot?

You can use a fuse tap on the cold side of the fuse.

You want switched power, otherwise the pyro will be a constant drain on the battery.

Well, replacing the manifold gasket went well, didnt break any bolts and took my time..
the vacuum worked and the manifold was suprisingly easy to drill and tap.
Got the probe installed and THEN discovered that the guy I bought the pyro from has cut& spliced the wiring!!! so now I got a probe ging no-where and still no working pyro gauge

Gotta call Autometer and see what they suggest......

Fuse 14 gives dimmed lights. If you want to use a fuse tap for the pyro power use 3, 8, 9, 10, or 11.

Wanna you help a lot of guys out, Thank You.

On my truck fuse 14 feeds the dash lights after the dimmer through a Orange wire. A tap off this will provide 10.5-11.5v controlled by the dash light dimmer.

I didn't know about the fuse taps, a very good idea.

Gages are in, works great! Thanks for the help! Interesting note, they don't dim very dark. My dash light dimmer goes from 10.5-11.5v. The same gages on my buddies 2nd gen dim completely, his switch goes 0-11.5v hmmm. I will drive it for a while and get a feel for the boost and temp curves, then...shifty eyes scanning the horizon for the next move...

I taped into the wire that feeds the heater control illumination light. Dims with the dash lights all way to nothing.
