Block heater cord source?

So I, umm, forgot to tie my block heater cord safely to my bumper yesterday...went to plug in just now and no cord amazingly, it tore the cord off about 10'' shy of the block. Is the dealer likely to have what I need, I don't dare inquire about an '89--what's the newest year that will fit? Looks like it just threads off the element...guess I'll know when the sun comes up---ahh, I love costing myself money

I made one myself. I just purchased the highest grade all weather extension cord (6 or 9 ft. or so) and cut and soldered it together. It is a much better cord than the one that was on it, and hasn't shown any signs of wear over the year. I think it totaled less than $8.

I used the cord off a broken chopsaw and just spliced it in with wire nuts. Works for me!

I wouldn't be afraid to ask a dealer for one. But if your still have enough for a good splice get some heavy duty cord and make one.

Mine went bad at the point where it went under the front right tire

Thanks for all the suggestions, fellas. I think I'll try to make one tomorrow and see what happens.

If you have a place near you that sells big rig parts, they can get you one also.

Is the block heater a factory option, was it included on all 1rst Gen's or is it aftermarket?
