block heater cable meltdown
block heater cable meltdown
So,went to install my new block heater cable( old one fell apart in my hand).pulled of nut to block and the inside of the cable is melted into the block and corroded badly. One of the connectors just broke off when pulling old one out.Looks like the rubber from old one just melted on inside.Last year the plug its self and cord it was plugged into was corroded and singed like it wanted to catch fire.Any ideas were to start now?
Get yourself a new heater and cable: http://scheiddiesel.com/display_part/1149.php
Yeah, it's not a big worry. You just need a new heater and cord. I've seen many block heaters melt the pins that attach to the cord. The terminals loosen up and corrode over the years, then the extra resistance causes some heat. Seen the same thing lots with ignition switch and headlight switch connectors too.
thanks for the help.tank style heater seems to be the way to go after research . truck wont start being so cold ,have a metal bucket with some hot embers from the wood stove under her now to fire her up.grid heater not working and truck aint charging still from bad pcm. come on Santa, and get here already!

Something I did with tractors when it was real cold out and they hadn't been plugged in, was hold a track torch up in front of the air intake. So it was pulling in heated air. You could probably do that with a Coleman propane torch, but you would have to open the line between the turbo and manifold to get the flame into the airstream.
