So you guys have me thinking Water to Air, because I can fit the radiator between my grille and my condenser (I had to move my condenser next to the radiator when I took my intercooler out.)

hi randy...a little off topic here but i got the hx35 rebuilt and installed- you were 100% correct it is insane, sounds like a jet and i dont even recognize my truck anymore theres that much difference over the lagmaster housing i had!

will changing out the intercooler possibly give you more boost psi?

I hear it lowers your psi, due to a larger area for the air to travel through.

Once again, just cause you have a higher psi doesn't mean you're making more power. Ideally, you want to make your goal on the lowest boost pressure you can.

it lowers your psi, but the colder the air is, the more dense it is, meaning it burns better. (there's a word for that) There comes a point where the intake temp gets hot enough that you would be better off at a lower boost press with a lower temp. (remember: pressure is a figure of restriction, not flow) An intercooler will probably slow spool up a little bit though. My understanding is that intercoolers work best on the high end, or at cruising speeds for long periods of time. right?

Having enough intercooler for the dyno for a few second pull is a lot different than towing on a hot day. I'd guess that the stock ic would get heat soaked quickly.

Best intercooler? Hands down Joe Hellmanns of Hellmannperformance.com. He has the dimensions on file. There is more to an intercooler than whats on the outside. The cores of his are very efficient.
Pictures of 73* 3" 2nd gen compressor elbow modded to 90* next to a 3.5" elbow. Intercooler with mounts, a/c mounts, pegs on bottom for almost factory install. Some sheet metal trimming required. Ceramic coated compressor housing.

More pictures

More random pictures.
Source Automotive true 4" down pipe, PDR fuel pin shaved to approx .060", more trimming/grinding and washers used to "push out" center bracket. Also used washers on lower valance(?) and grille.
Mine was made with 3.5" inlet and outlets. You can get it made with 2.5" or 3" if desired.

Price?

About $1000-1200 if IIRC.

If you could find three or more guys willing to do this, he might do a little better on the price.

Just remembered the ding in the front; UPS put a hole in it during shipment. Local radiator guy patched it up. Also to retain hood latch I cut a small square notch in top and removed the fins down to the first core row.
