Has anyone run a DAYCO belt tensioner assembly? is it good/bad?

I have tried to find one that is in the sticky, but everyone says that number is no good.

I shredded a belt on the 3rd and put my old spare on, and within 30 seconds it slid forward and is rubbing on tensioner assembly

I need to fix ASAP so any help would be helpfull. My local Autozone has the DAYCO one in stock for $65 verses everywhere else for $120+

I bought a Dayco for mine from Advance, had no worries about it, as Dayco has been around for ump-teen million years(in Dayton, OH since 1905 actually) making belts, hoses, clamps, lotsa underhood stuff!(also because they didn't have a Goodyear at the time in stock) I liked the different stronger appearing construction of it compared to OEM, and I *think* it has a lifetime warranty(but not sure, need to check...). Good luck, have no fear! ;-)

UPDATE: Just checked my receipt and the website...Advance warranties the tensioner for 1 year, sorry 'bout that!! But I'm betting it'll last much much longer.

 

Dayco is fine.

 

I just replaced a Dayco with over 100k on it with another Dayco. Heck if they last that long it is good enough for me. I got mine at Autozone too. I actually hate that place but they did have it in stock and at the cheapest price.

 

Thank you guys, I'm off to Autozone in the morning, so I'm ready to tackle it on Saturday.

It's just the one 10mm bolt, right?

I think its a 13mm.. but what ever.. just the one bolt in the middle... I don't know why you cann't just buy the pulley, like on a GM...
I've got a $120 NAPA one sitting on the bench waiting to go back.. (It will get a Dayco..)

Get a Goodyear Gatorback belt while you're there too!

 

Ditto^^^^(I forgot to mention that, thanks bg...). Advance didn't have the Goodyear Gatorback belt in stock right then either, and as it was a semi-emergency(no pun ), I had to settle for the regular Goodyear. Unlike the Gatorback , it does squeak at shutdown , so I assume it may also run a bit warmer by design, and may even slip easier(if a belt should tend to slip for any reason). Bill is right - Go for the Gatorback(it ain't THAT much more - if they got it!).

 

I do not know how they figure out who gives what warranty because I have a Dayco tensioner I bought from my local Mom & Pop shop and it has a Lifetime replacement on it.
Even most belts and hoses you can get replaced for free because it did not stand up to your expectations and you were not satisfied with it.
You might want to check your water pump while your head is down there.

Thanks for the advice guys, and when I get the funds I will get a gatorback, but my spare is in good condition so it can stay on for another week.

What exactly should I look for in terms of the waterpump?

Does the Dayco have a metal wheel, or nylon like the stocker?

As per Jim, I imagine the warranty is established by the retailer...but you'd almost think it would be the vendor, huh? And my Dayco has the plastic wheel(but now you guys have made me wonder if I DID buy a Dayco after all...gonna have to dig out the receipt now...

 

Usually the pulley is fine, it's the joint in the tensioner that's worn out and making the belt run off line.

Nylon. It will outlast the rest of the tensioner.

 

Oh DUH!! What did I say...plastic??!! Well I suppose I MEANT nylon...plastic was the first thing came to mind! Sorry about that!!
