BD TQ converter ?

What do you guys think of this BD coverter and its efficiency rating? If you go to the site you can click on it and see the rating. The price is 615.00 around the same price as the others except for Huges which is the cheapest.

Thanks

Hope somebody on here has an opinion on these . I asked about the same thing on bd's forum with no replies as yet. I'd like to know by how much any of the performance tc's would lower engine rpm's in 3rd gear with an a518 @ 55 mph.I'd also like to here about any vavlebody improvements available.

Thanks

There are quite a few aftermarket TC manufacturers. In my opinion, if you stick with the reputable names, you will have a good product. The stock TC has an efficiency rating of 60%. This was done to save drivetrain parts. I think all of the aftermarket manufacturers have addressed the issues that cause failure such as a billet front cover, multi clutches and improved stator fin design so it will boil down to personal preference. Keep on bombing and you lose even more of your stock TC's efficiency. Installing a more efficient TC will really wake things up. Also, a completely reworked valve body or even a shift kit will improve shifting. I have a Suncoast VB and it provides nice solid shifts. It has increased line pressure and it keeps the TC charged even in park. I was told by several trans specialists that Trans-Go makes an excellent shift kit that works quite well with our transmissions, however, there are other brands available and the choice is open to you. Hope this sheds some light on the subject.

Aloha,

Does "BD" count as a big name, though?

I know that they are a big company, but I've never heard anything about their TC's. For all I know, they could be rebadged TCI's.

"Big Name's" are usually Goerend Brothers, Suncoast, DTT and ATS...

Begle1,

Funny you should say that about TCI. We have had some bad experiences with them all the way here in the middle of the Pacific back in the 80's. My buddies ended up calling them Total Crap Inc. Just sharing our experience. From what I've been told, BD is popular in Canada.

I've talked to Dave at Goerend Bro's and Suncoast. Dave took his time and gave me a lot of info. I asked Suncoast about their efficiency rating and they said " we make them as tight as we can". Like most of us I'm just trying to get the best bang for the buck. Right now I'm thinking of going with either Goerend or BD. Thanks guys..

my bd doesnt do that... i have to put it in Neutral for a few seconds before taking off! you get used to it, but its better if it works like you want!

Thanks for the info guys .
12 valve, you say you have to put your truck in neutral before taking off . Is this just after start up or every time following being in park?
Mbolivar you have a suncoast vb but what tc are you using? If I may ask.
Thanks again.

Hey, I guess I'm your man w/ the BD TC. Love it. Very low stall. Wants to "go" at a stop, idling. I had it put in a year or so ago when I had my rear main seal done. Upgraded to the 2nd gen flexplate also. Hey, do it once, do it right, I always say. I have had fellow 1st genners who drove my truck compliment the "grab" as they were punching it intermitently from 20 mph or so cruising to WOT.

frmll300,

Unfortunately, I am STILL running a stock converter. With my mods, I am definitely not putting the power to the ground. When time, money and ambition become available (in that order) , I will upgrade to a Suncoast built transmission with their TC and flexplate. The truck pulls real nice at 2500 rpm and above but feels kinda sloppy at lower rpms. My dad has an '05 RAM3500 and I know my torque is higher than his, however, his truck drives with a much better feel having a tight transmission.

Aloha,
