I may be in the market for a new battery (I'll find out in a few hours) so I'd like some suggestions from you guys. I need a good, long lasting battery that won't wince at temps sometimes well below freezing for weeks at a time. I've heard nothing but good things about Optima RedTops but like I said, I'm open to all suggestions.

I like Optimas too, but it sounds like a good battery charger/conditioner is more important. I mounted a solar charger on mine, but we get plenty of sun around here...Mark

 

I have a pair of Optima Blue Tops, with 750CCA. I figured they would last me until I quit winter driving my truck, and they'll fit in my new one. lol I really love em, and they're impossible to drain. I haven only had them for 2 or 3 years this November, but they've been awesome all the way to 30 below 0!

 

Diehard Platinum Marine. 31m/50131... 1150 cold crank amps. Something like a three or five year replacement warrantee. Costs somewhere around 300 bucks. You can get it at Sears.

Have had it in two AZ blistering summers, so far no probs. Heard of people having issues with the Optimas, and heard good things about this one. So that's the way I went.

 

Where do you get the Optima's at ?

 

They are cheapest at Cosco, but selection is limited. I have owned many of them, 2 in the boat, 2 in my rig , 1 in my Porsche, 1 in my Fairlane and 1 in my Rover. I have had a couple of internal failures, which means no voltage. All in all though, I like that they don't off gas hydrogen, they don't leak acid and you can mount them in any position. My 2nd in my rig is mounted sideways in the space behind and below the drivers side, Also, the racers use them. Mark

 

The Optimas seem nice, but I've heard some shaky reviews about em recently. I wouldn't be scared to try them though, I'm sure the bads are few and far between. I still can't believe how expensive they (batteries in genral) have become.

 

I've heard some shakey reviews on the Optimas too,mostly in the off road world though.

I heard it put that Optima's are "bottom end of the top of the line"

 

That may be true, look at the price of an automotive Odyssey AGM battery, yikes. That said, overall I have had good longevity and good luck with Optimas...Mark

I've had really good luck with the oreillys brand extreme super start. I'm going on 3.5 years now.

 

I'll have to see what mine is...1150CCA and it starts right away with 27 deg of timing.

 

The first Optimas I bought were in 2003 for my boat. I just replaced 1 of them in May, after 8 years or so...Mark

 

I read optima sold out and is made by the same guys as wal-marts batteries down in mexico. Not sure how true it is but I read that the new ones aren't as good as the older ones due to the sell. Just what I have read. With that said though I run a optima in my truck and never had a problem with it.

 

Sears Platinum. Burned out two optima's and warranty was a PITA. Sears if it test bad it gets replaced for 4 years for free...

These were in a Jeep Wrangler off road. Your experiance may vary...
