I am looking at Detroit Lockers for Dana 70's, they are asking for the spline count, and I don't know it!!!
Also, looks like I'm going to need a new ring and pinion, and I don't know the spline count in the pinion either .

No no, I am looking online. I think my ring and pinion are missing teeth....

 

All the dana 70's that came in our vintage of Dodge truck, and possibly later are 32 spline axles. I did lots of research on this, as I lost my pinion gear and was looking for parts. They are a Dana 70 U. I know this thread is month old, but that the info I just found out from my trusted shop expert. Good luck with the axle!

Apparently the Dana 70u has smaller bearings than the Dana 70 used in Ferds. I don't like that....

 

It has a smaller pinion bearing. I too found this disconcerting, but my axle guy said that that bearing is not really a weak spot in these at all. The rest of the bearings are the same.

 

You intercooled guys... Early 1st genners such as 89 and 90's have a real 1 ton Dana 70 with 35 spline axle shafts not sissy stuff.

 

Now I'm curious. Is your dana a standard dana 70, a dana 70 U, or Dana 70 HD? My quest for knowledge never ends.........

What do Dana 71's have?

 

My 90 had a d70hd with 35 spline axles but I still broke it

 

Not sure about the 71's Kurt. On the 70hd's in the early trucks, it's easy to tell, if it's a bolt up axle shaft flange, not studs, then it's not a 35 spline shaft.
