auto to 5600

I recently purchased a 90 w250 reg cab with a bad 727 auto... Got it for 2400 and its dent and rust free so I don't think i did too bad on it... I've allways been a manual guy and I've made up my mind to install a nv5600... Thares a guy here in town who has a core for sale that "only needs "synchros" for a grand, decent price? I dont mind having it rebuilt cause I've got a couple buddies in the trans business... What I need to know is if there's anyone on here who has done this to a truck that previously had a 727, from all the info I've been able to find is from guys who have performed this swap on a newer first gen with the overdrive auto... It seems pretty simple on those trucks?

Find out what year and what size input is in the 5600.
From what I understand you cannot buy parts for earlier 5600's that were made before 2000 or was it 1999?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

The 99-00 had the small input and most likely had the old style fiber lined synchronizers. You can't get the old style sncyro's, only the newer ones. You can get new gears and use the new style syncro's though.

Either way with a 3rd gen unit you should be good to go. I would have a look at the oil in it, and check for metal shavings. I'd say $1000 is an OK price if all it needs is syncro's. I would try to get for less though. Keep in mind rebuild kit's start around $450

Maybe get a 2nd gen shifter stub for it, but I'm sure the 3rd gen could be made to work. It just has a different bent to it.

I am preparing to put one in my '93.

You will need a 29 spline t-case or at least a adapter coupler. Gonna need the 2nd gen bellhousing adapter and starter too.
