Automatic Trans service

I read with diligence the "sticky" on performing your own service on the 727 transmission and I have a couple of questions so I understand it better. First off the pictures and directions were very well layed out and easy to understand!

Some who have done this service really enjoy the results. Three adjustments are covered. First is the band adjustment. Then the kickdown adjustment and then the line pressure adjustment.

I've played with my TV cable and have very good kickdown and light throttle shifting points. It holds gears a little longer but still shifts at WFO at just about the de-fuel point. Would this mean I don't need to make any adjustments under the pan??

What is actually being accomplished in the pressure and band adjustments? It would seem to me that a stock converter's slip would preclude any firmnest than a band adjustment would give?!!

I want to do this service but I'm wondering what the driving difference would be if I did all three adjustments? Can someone explain what is happening (changing) with these adjustments?

thanks

Brad

Properly adjusted bands will shift better and last longer and you only have 2 bands not 3.

My 89 I have been too lazy to adjust everything up proper, and I defuel at WOT before shifting too. In the 93 I don't have that problem since I have moved the ball on the pump linkage to the inner hole for more responsive movement, and I removed the high idle screw that the fuel lever pushes on at WOT. I get over 3000rpm without a 366GSK spring in the pump

However, in the 93, it shifts too soon when I have it adjusted so the TV cable is maxed at WOT. And like I said: the 89 shifts just perfect in normal and slightly aggressive throttle situations. But on WOT, I defuel as well.

Adjusting your bands is something required at a certain point even in a stock truck. Increasing line pressure some is good for your clutches. I would not suggest adjusting the hex screw next to the line pressure for 1st-2nd gear shifts unless you have an issue. I need to turn it back on my 89. It was not needed.

A lot of us have removed the high idle screw gives some more power and rpm.

yup, nothing internally will jam. Get it right out of there and let your carpet be your high idle screw! For more pedal travel, check the wire where it goes through the rubber stopper on the pedal itself. SOmetime there is slack. I crimped on an electrical fitting on the wire after tightening the cable so the throttle would instantly start moving once I touched the pedal. Then you can move the ball that the linkage connects to right on the pump lever and move it to the inner hole that a spring should be on now. I love how much more responsive it feels with this mod. DOn't have to push your foot so far. However, it will make it almost impossible to adjust your tranny from dumping into 3rd before 30mph with moderate acceleration. I just shift manually now
