I have just purchased a 93 350 4x4with auto trans.3.55 gears. Is this supposed to be lockup torque converter. The truck gets terrible mileage about 11-12 at best, engine runs well, has plenty of power, but seems like the converter isn't holding, and chatters when taking off. It had a Jasper rebuilt trans.installed in it right before i purchased it. My other 93, a manual trans 4x4 gets around 16-17 under the same conditions. What should I look for?
I have two 93s, a 2wd 250 and a 4wd 350, both autos. neither have the lockup converter, they are the 518s, a 727 with O/D on the tail end. the 2wd gets 20+ mpg ,the 350 is new to me but seems to get pretty poor mileage. sounds like something is going on with your trans or converter. time to play with the pump settings

Yes the 727 is the 3 speed as used for many years by Dodge. As far as adding the O/D I dont know. I would guess the build design is the same but??? Im pretty sure all the non O/D trucks came with 308 rear end gears. Adding an O/D might drop your rpms to low to do any good.
There were also some changes to the back of the 727 case to accomodate the fluid requirements for the OD. It is my understanding that an OD cannot just be bolted on. A divorced OD unit could probably be installed in a 2WD but I doubt it would fit in a 4x4.

Carl is right, you cannot just bolt on a O/D unit. It takes a different valve body, case, internal plumbing, and electrics.
Now this shuddering. Is it a harsh shudder? Does it grind, squeal, or clunk? Is there a warranty on it? If not, take it to another shop (that you trust) and have some pressure checks done.
The milage is poor even for a 1 ton. Some tuning is in order for sure.

Jasper should have an 18 month warranty, did the guy order a 2nd gen, trying to upgrade the truck and now it isn't working right?. Don't feel too bad, I just tore up my 727 Jasper, plowing. Mostly, my fault though, but it's getting built stronger for half of what Jasper wants for another off the "assembly line".
