Auto tranny rebuild?

hi all,

alright so my tranny is in dier need of some rebuilding. It slipps quiet a bit and i can definantly tell not all of the power is hitting the pavement. I was wondering what all i should be upgrading other than the torque convertor.

Depends on how much money you want to throw at it. I say along with a converter do a valve body, upgrade clutches, and a 2nd gen flexplate if not an aftermarket.

Good choices. Just make sure the red eagle rebuild kit doesn't come with the valve body upgrade stuff, if it does than a transgo kit wouldn't be necessary.

Is the red eagle kit just the clutches and steels and bands and stuff?

Try to find a stock 2nd gen flexplate, they're much stronger than a stock 1st gen flexplate

What do you intend to do with the truck? Grocery-getter? 10 second dragster?

Pull a sled or pull a trailer?

If towing, upgrading the transmissions cooler wouldn't be a bad idea, if you dont already have the auxillary trans cooler mounted under the bed.

Not sure what you mean by that? These trucks all had two coolers from the factory. One oil-to-water beside the engine, one oil-to-air behind the grille. If yours are missing someone's been up to butchery. For empty cruising around you can get away with one or the other being gone. A working truck needs all the trans cooling you can throw at it.

you should check to see if the other one is there.

It just looks like a big cannister on the side of the engine, the passenger side to be exact. Under the turbo. It has a couple steel coolant lines running to it. 2 coolant lines. One from each end, and then IIRC it has 2 more going from the trans to the bottom side of the cooler. you can't really miss it if it's there.
