Would it be feasible to change a'92 518 to a 5speed. I have both trucks. the 5speed is in a '91. Would it be a difficult job or not too bad? My '92 is pristine and I figured it would get a lot better fuel mileage with the 5 speed. Am I close on this or not.

 

As long as both are 4wd it would not be too hard at all. Just have to swap pedals, crossmembers etc. Ive done it on my 2wd.

if you have both trucks...it should be easy as pie. i just did it, using parts from 1000 different trucks, mail ordering stuff, dealer parts...kinda a hassle, but probably worth it in the end

 

I wanna do this REALLY bad and i know where a truck is with the 5 speed 2wd that i could probably pick up for around $2500 and it is not in bad shape. I still like my reg. cab alot better and it is alot cleaner and i have already done a bunch of stuff to mine that i would miss if i got rid of it, thought bout buyin that truck and swapping trannies and re-selling that other truck, what do you all think good or bad idea? Are the driveshafts the same spline or different cause the truck with the 5 speed is an extended cab. Let me know. How long do you think the swap would take i may have access to a car lift and a guys shop that i would do it in, that guy also has a ton of knowledge bout doin this kind of stuff?

 

I did it. If I didn't I wouldn't have the truck today. It makes it bearable as a daily driver...
