I have stock spring still, and its really not that bad into 3rd...just rev it out a little higher in 2nd and then throw it and go. I love this combo. I do wanna step up to a G56 though.

I have 307's,35in tire's and a getrag.I love it no problem getting it to move just stick it in 2nd and let out on the clutch, heck I have even took off in 3rd at an idle though i dont realy recomend it. Pulling a 18' car trailer and my jeep cherokee my truck dont even know it back there, just made a 120 mile trip with my jeep in tow average 70 to 75mph no problems at all, could take off fast from a dead stop than my buddy could in his 2nd gen with a nv4500 and his jeep in tow.

Ive had both 3.08 & 3.54 gears in my 91 1ton the 3.54 gears were very good for pulling & bottom end take off but took approx 2-3 mpg off. I now have the 3.08 back in & my mileage is between 18&20 I do pull a toy trailer with a unloaded weight of 11,400 & it pulls good with either set of gears just a little slower with the 3.08 but also iam right at 300hp with a 727 3 speed

I'm happy with my 3.07 gears. Cruises nice and quiet all day long at 70-75 mph. I tow a car trailer from time to time with no problems. If your just driving around an empty truck alot they are perfect I think. I start in second gear all the time. However if you plan on towing over 8000lbs alot you may be happier with the 3.54's.

Nope, the OD tranny doesn't have anymore problems than a 727. It is basically a 727 with overdrive, so if overdrive goes out, then you have a 727.

I would never do it w/ an automatic, but with a manual, you may be able to live with it?
If you're at stock power I'd be very reluctant.

Going to 3.07 with stock tires is nothing like going to 35" balloon tires for higher gearing. You are adding rotational mass, wider tread, lower psi, more contact/surface patch. etc. 3.07 and getrag is an amazing combo for all uses within GVR

Good points all! I'll bow to those with actual 3.07 experience.

Thanks to all who responded! Great information. I'm installing the 3.07s this weekend. I'll let you know how it works out.

I was going to put the getrag in my truck with the 3.07's in it but I ended up wondering if I could ever back a trailer at all considering that reverse in the getrag with 3.54's was about a little to high in my opinion anyway. You guys that love the 3.07's and the getrag, what is reverse like?

do you have a 4X4? If you leave the hubs unlocked you can put em in 4 Low, and you can back up a trailer all day long. I do that with my 3.54's. It works great, never have to slip the clutch. -- try doing that in a 2nd or 3rd gen. lol

While my auto trans was still in my truck. It was faster and towed better. The 3.54s made my 727 shift very quick and I felt like I wasn't using all my power.
