Anyone read the new diesel power mag?
On the mileage article there are two first gens. Old project rust bucket gets 27 mpg? What, how did that happen? My 91.5 with O/D has seen about 23. Weighs about the same, right at 5,000 lbs.

Some of them were cutting off the engines and coasting downhill...
Most at least slipped into neutral.
ALL drove like grampa - very easy starts, slowing down WAAYY before needing to stop, trying not to stop completely...
Not exactly like you'd drive everyday.

yah with those techniques I'm surprised we can't get more than 27 mpg! Either way, I like the fact that I can flog the beast for the entire tank in the city or on highway and know that I will get a solid 22mpg This is with the fueling set where my boost maxes at 35 psi...

27 is pretty good for that truck really. Its an auto no o/d. I got about 21 when my truck had that combo, 17 once modded, and now 28best with overdrive/3.07.

Ahem......... My ears were burning.
Seriously, though I drive like said above, minus shutdowns and coasting in neutral, and get 17mpg.
I figure I'm losing a couple to the mud terrains, a couple to the ULSD, and a couple because I haven't gotten to the IP yet.

Yea you gotta remember that rust bucket has stock timed pump. With the pump against the head he may have hit 30mpg. I regularly got 27mpg on I-10 from Katy to Houma, LA. Thats cruising about 63-65mph, so a lighter reg cab would do really well.

The article said they have some special tune on the one d-max.. but seriously thats unrealistic because not everyone has that tune on there duramax..THEY SHOULD HAVE USED ALL STOCK TRUCKS!.
