Its all going to depend on the pitman arm. Long enough to push the drag link back into the 'pocket' of the engine crossmember. Then it has to have minimal droop to preserve some uptravel at the spring....but not be too high that the drag link hits the crossmember.

It looks like its going to be close!

Yup, close for sure. Should have it mounted early next week at the latest. Trying to work on it this weekend but family first again.

Well guys, it is too good to be true. Meiser is correct, the pitman arm will not work. As you can see it has too much drop, sagged springs and the pitman arm not being on the splines as far as the original are a contributing factor but i would want alot more room between the spring and TRE for travel. I will be calling NWFab monday morning and quizing them.

Sucks because i have a 14hr round trip to pick up a boat on thursday, going to have to borrow a truck now.

Bummer....

Yeah. I looked long and hard for a pitman that would work. The WJ was the closest I could find. Its a shame that even it needs to be modified to work.

I tried to find an original 1978ish Ford F150 pitman arm. From my research that one might have worked without modification. I never did fine one though and decided to go with the WJ arm since I could buy it new for $22.

I hope you find a solution soon. I know how you feel having a truck that isn't up. When I installed my steering system I cracked the top cap on the steering box and had to wait about a week for a replacement steering box. It was totally my fault for not using a pitman arm puller, but it still sucked.

Good luck finding a solution quickly. I'll keep an eye on this thread if I can lend anymore tech help.

Thanks for all your help Mieser, looks like your going to have to get into business making pitman arms. I just hope the draglink will work with a pitman like yours.

Biltit:

Sorry this didn't work first time. When you're chatting with NW Fab please tell them if they can come up with something workable I'll be the first one to order a kit. Actually, now that Mother Mopar has disposed of thousands of spare steering box mounting plates (which are prone to breaking into three pieces), I suspect NW Fab would realize lots of orders if they can engineer a solution.

Good luck.

looks like it would work perfect if you had ~4" lift springs!

Yup. skyjacker has a 2'' drop arm which would be better but only by an inch. I think mieser has the best option.
