Just wondering if the motors are that big of a difference. As in is the injector pump set up different because it's basically a no load motor, or the injectors different, timing maybe. It's out of a low hour generator.

I worked one one in a vacuum truck. It had no turbo and was rated at 100 hp. I guess it depends on the set up.

The "B" series Cummins IS an industrial engine. They just tune them for our automotive application.

don't forget the legal side of putting a non epa engine inside a highway use pickup... big fine$$$$ No big deal but just hope you don't get in a wreck and/or have lawyers crawling around your rig trying to find liability/fault for an accident or citation.

The governor setups can be dramatically different, especially when you are dealing with constant speed applications like generators. The engine itself is not any different.

The motor is stuffed in a 93 dually right now. The guy center punched a tree with it. It's a 4wd, and I could get it for 2500 bucks. He said it ran like a raped ape. I'm thinking of converting my 2wd 79 crew cab to a 4wd diesel with it.

Just not sure if the motor will last with that pump the way it is set up. Guess I could always just replace the pump.

It's always cheaper to find a complete donor truck instead of piece mealing all the parts required to do the conversion. That way you end up with all the small costly parts in one shot. My last complete 4x4 5 speed donor truck was delivered driven to me, with a current state inspection sticker, for a thousand dollars cheaper than the price of the engine that you are looking at. Of course, prices may vary in you part of the world on Craigslist.org Ad Weekly, Bulletin Board, etc.

I'm not entirely sure what the message above is saying about collecting parts. The donor truck I'm looking at with the generator engine is a complete 4wd dually with 3K miles on it. Everything I need for the conversion is there.

And diesels are still pretty spendy around here. I have found quite a few deals though. The last was a 91.5 with a bad oil leak and the 5 speed in the bed for 1000 bucks. I fixed the KDP crack and unjammed the shift fork in the getrag, swapped the front 60 with a 44, then sent it down the road for $3500. guy was doing a diesel swap in his chevy and didn't need the 60 so I kept it.
