Anyone ever run in the 60-130mph drags?

Just curious if anyone has experience in the 60-130mph drags. Lonestarraceway down the road from me has nights where they close down the 1/4 mile and run 60-130mph races. A LOT of rich houston guys come out and its normal to have ferrari's, lambo's, a few ford GT's, vipers, and all sorts of other high end cars. You dont see many trucks there, maybe 1 truck every few events, and its generaly one of Henneseys customer rides. Everyone there is nice and we have a great time and I talk to alot of the drivers. Aparently they put a GPS like module in your vehicle and it relays all sorts of info back to the anouncer booth.

Well, as crazy as it sounds I'd like to take the old dodge up there and try it out. They dont have alot of rules really and just say you need at least a 12 second vehicle to partisipate. I just think it would be funny to be the one to set the record for 60-130mph diesel on the track, especialy with an old first gen. With all the diesel race shops around I'm sure once word got out the record wouldnt last long though.

Anyway, it was just a thought.

Check it out.....

I sort of did that against a 6.4 powerstroke once, but it wasn't on the dragstrip.

I have lots of times, but never at the dragstrip. I see alot of stock and lightly modded C6 vettes running, and I already know the old 92' can beat a stock C6 from 60-130. LOL I played with a few SRT8's and Trailblazer SS's and they couldnt even come close to keeping up.

I just wish my Duramax was as fast as the old dodge is. I ran it at the 1/8th and hit a best 8.53@85, and going by SOP feel its not pulling anywhere near as hard as the ugly old truck. LOL

First gens pull so hard on the top end its crazy. as long as they have timing and the power is getting to the ground. a roll on in 4th gear in the 93 will get you about 90, hit 5th and you better hold on

I hope the 12cm housing doesn't change the crazy top end surge it has.

I shift into 4th just over 80, then into 5th well after the speedo pegs.

I'm not sure how much is any the 12cm will be holding me back. I need to stick with a relativly small turbo so I can get spooled ASAP while racing. Before I parked the truck to upgrade alot of different things I could roll into the throttle in 3rd gear at 50mph and as soon as boost came on it would go sideways and leave 2 nice blackmarks till halfway thru 4th gear. They were hard continental tires though. Plus on the track I'll be running some big M&H slicks 32" tall. Its nice to buy one set and swap them between the Dmax and Cummins depending on what track I go to.

How many RPM are you running? I have a 3200rpm spring but I doubt I can hit 80 in 3rd gear. More like 50? Gonna have to try it soon.

4200rpm spring and I was running 285/70/18's then, and they were over 33" tall. I'm not sure what exact rpm though, no tach yet. But soon I'll have one.

my truck runs like 90 but probably closer to 95 in 4th... 366 spring and the high idle as far out as it can be while still being what stops my throttle.

I went and typed the trans ratios, rear end ratios, and redline rpms into the gear calculator and I think I spoke too soon. I guess my wife is right about me not paying attention. LOL

THAT needs to be in the sticky.

3200 16 30 54 91 123
This is kinda funny. I tried it out tonight, but I didn't use first gear, and I didn't even want to try 5th. Unless I did something wrong (3200 spring) 2nd=30, 3rd=55, 4th=80. I might just try this again. It seems like my truck kinda defuels when I get close to red line. Unfotunately I don't have a tach. Is there anything that I have to be careful of if I back the high idle screw off? Is it limiting my rpm to less than 3200, or is it just limiting the amount of fuel to 3200?

Thanks!

Those springs are kinda just a suggestion. After throwing away the high idle screw and fiddling with the linkage to where it missed the stop and hit the side of the pump (like 130 degrees rotation) , I could hit 3500 with almost full fuel no problem.
