Any reason not to?

I've got the throttle cable bracket off my engine right now and I'm wondering if there's any reason not to whack off the back 1/2 of the bracket that I guess is used to hold the kickdown linkage on an automatic truck? Mine is a manual and it looks to me like just some extra steel to get in the way of fuel lines, filters, etc.

Didn't you notice. That is radiation shield for atom mixer. Cost you at least one MPG if you remove.
