Any 1 gen rigs MACCO'd
Any 1 gen rigs MACCO'd
I was wondering if anyone has used MACCO to refresh their rigs paint? I used them a number of years ago, but it has been a while and it wasn't a stock paint job. I was thinking of just reddoing the current 2 tone blue/ silver combo... Any thoughts? Thanks... Jake
its nice from about 15 feet away, i think stevie wonder and ray charles could of did a better job instead of the macco guy that did it before i got it. mines getting sassy grass green and flat black once i get around to it.
Around my area there's only 1 Macco you want to take it to and they will work with you on price depending on how much prep work you do before they get it. They'll shoot a truck for about $500-$600 depending on how you talk them down.
any of you in itex remeber that maaco is a member, so use you itex account and get it shot for free, just gotta do a freebie later on down the line......... itex folks will know what I am talkin about.
Id recommend staying away from them. You pay for a $600 paintjob, you get a $600 paintjob. Ive seen some of their work, and it is horrible. You can see spots they missed and spots they got too much. Plus they dont strip it down to bare metal or remove dents. If you go to a body shop, you can get them to do all that, plus a nice paintjob for around $1250-1500 I think. Atleast thats what a buddy of mine got quoted. My .02.
There has been a BIG sign, at a small body shop on highway 461, here in Kentucky, that, for years, stated that they would "PAINT ANY CAR--ANY COLOR--FOR $100".
I passed there, a few days ago, and they had Xed out $100 and made it $200.
A $200 Kentucky paint job would be equivalent to a $600 job in any other state.

me and my friend will paint any vehicle usually for about 500 to 600 bucks depending on body work and prep time, plus materials, we use our friends body shop, we do some light body work, this is not a MACCO job either, we do the stuff right, weve painted a few motorcycles, trucks, pody parts, im going to paint my ram and my ranger there.

I've been thinking about Macco because the local body shop quoted me $3500 to finish prepping my truck and shoot it. They want $1200 to just shoot it white. I think both prices are to high. My plans are not to take it out to my brother's hangar and finish prepping it then drive down to Maaco in Tulsa to get it painted. Then I put all the trim back on.

When I was looking into getting my truck painted, summer of 2004, I got bids at well thought of shops starting at a low of $2200--with me buying all parts and materials--to as high as $3600--same deal.
I replaced a door and fender on the same side, and my truck doesn't even have a sheet-metal bed and tailgate to contend with.
I finally let a guy(that should know what he is doing, as he grew up in a paint shop run by the best in the area) talk me into letting him paint it on a tire trade.
He got a real expensive set of tractor tires, and I got a quick crappy paint job.
I will paint them myself, from now on.

Thanks guys... I am in luck with the MACCO shops as I am in a pretty populated area. There are a lot of them around... I just have to do my homework on the stores and see what they produce...
I really love my truck, but I really did not spend a whole lot of money on the rig itself. I have a hard time spending 1500 + dollars on a paint job, when I paid 3x's that much for the truck. It is just hard to swollow. I got rid of the 05 to save money, and I do love the "new old" truck, but I have to draw the line somewhere. Bottom line is that if G-d forbid, I totaled my rig, I would get the 5 grand back to buy one, not the 10 grand I would be putting into it (counting interior and paint and all). I have a chevelle that I have 18-20 grand in, and I feel I could get that back in the case of a loss, but not for the rig. Don;t get me wrong though, I do love my truck...

Having worked at a MAACO for most of a year as a body tech let me add my 2 cents. For a paint job on the cheap MAACO can work OK, the best thing you can do is to do the prep yourself and have them spray it. The prep done at most MAACO shops is a quick scuff, feather the worst chips and shoot it. By sanding the truck yourself you can be sure it is well sanded, with all the chips and scratches feathered out. They will mask around everything which leaves the chance of overspray or spots that are over masked and will not get a good coat of paint, if you do a little tear down on your own it will greatly increase the look of the paint job, remove the bumpers, grill, tail lights, antenna, door handles, tail gate handle, etc., this will eliminate the paint line at all these places making it less likely to peel away.
Since you have more than one shop to choose from, ask to see a couple of the cars they just painted, look at the gloss and texture of each painters work and pick the one that looks the best. Spend the extra money to have an integrated clear coat, they mix clear and color together for the last coat, it will have a higher gloss and will last longer.
BTW, for me to use mid grade paint materials alone to paint a truck the size of these 1ST gen trucks is around $1000.

I had them do my hood and one fender. I think it turned out fine. The match isn't great on the silver...but they told me that up front. My dad had his entire truck done. It's no hand-rubbed 17 coat paint job. But I think it looks a heck of a lot better then the flaking stuff I had on the hood before!
Thanks fellas... I am going to take my time and run to different maccos and check out their operations...
I ahve to agree the paint they will spray on the rig is go0ing to be better than the flaking silver....
Hey Extreme; do you think the MACCO price will increase due to the size of the truck? Thanks again guys..Jake

BTW, I just got my paint ordered, I have a flat bed so no bed to paint, I am going to paint it black with pearl ghost flames, primer, paint, clear and pearls cost me $956. I still have to fix all the dingers, disassemble and prep everything before I can spray it. MAACO is actually a pretty good deal if you do not want to pay custom paint job prices, the average paint job we do is over $5K, we did a color change and custom graphics on a 4 door dually, the bill on it was right at $14K.
